Jelly fish leave Haifa bay
Walla.co.il reported today that the thousands of jelly fish that lay siege to the city's bathing beaches disappered over the last week. It's believed that they were annoyed by the thuds and noise from the landing rockets (quite a few of which landed in the sea, by the way). Technion (Haifa's Polytechnic Institute) researches have said to walla news that "so far, the influence of rocket shelling on jelly fish had not been investigated by the science, but if anyone would like to take it up as a disertation, he or she will be welcomed with open arms". Polution improves as industrial zone drops production
Yet another unforseen outcome of the Hezbollah shelling was a reduction in the notorious polution levels at Haifa Bay. The area, known to be the most polluted in Israel, has improved significantly over the past two weeks, as many chemical plants were shut down. Perhaps the fledgling israeli Green party can reach a kind of understanding with the militia; this would be Greenpeace with a vengeance. Source: Walla.co.il, ynet.co.il
Local intiatives: Make up your own frontier As the alarms become routine, it seems that some townships in Israel decide to take the initiative to make the war time more exciting for their residents. In the town of Metulla, reps from the council went between the households and strongly suggested to evacuate. The reason? A hezbollah attack planned to overrun the town. The IDF said that it had no such information and that no evacuation orders were given; the Mayor appears to have had his own information, or perhaps inspiration. A big investigative report is being run on the walla.co.il site at the moment. In the same vein, the township of Binyamina, some 20miles out of Haifa, far out of the present reach (touchwood) of the Hezbollah missiles, were awoken to the sound of sirens yesterday. The sirens lasted for less than a minute and were the result of bad wiring in the siren system that finally gave way. Nevertheless, and inspite repeated clarifications by the army, the local council kept the residents in bobmbshelters all day long. Reports of a huge street party happening on the deserted streets of Binyamina are investigated. Source: Haaretz.co.il.

Israel backed by army of cyber-soldiers
From Yonit Farago in Jerusalem
WHILE Israel fights Hezbollah with tanks and aircraft, its supporters are campaigning on the internet.
Israel’s Government has thrown its weight behind efforts by supporters to counter what it believes to be negative bias and a tide of pro-Arab propaganda. The Foreign Ministry has ordered trainee diplomats to track websites and chatrooms so that networks of US and European groups with hundreds of thousands of Jewish activists can place supportive messages.
In the past week nearly 5,000 members of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) have downloaded special “megaphone” software that alerts them to anti-Israeli chatrooms or internet polls to enable them to post contrary viewpoints. A student team in Jerusalem combs the web in a host of different languages to flag the sites so that those who have signed up can influence an opinion survey or the course of a debate.
